It’s been a while. Sorry about that (I guess).

So quick update: I’m in the States. I’m in school. I’m living in the wonderful house on the water. I’m with Nick. We “have” a cat called Meatball.

After being here for a couple of days I went blonde (for the most part). I spend my first Superbowl and my first Valentine’s here.

Hm.

I’m taking History of Homicide (fun!), Algebra (for the first time ever, I score 100% on my tests!), Abnormal Psych (meh) and American Film (awesome!)

And that’s just my first semester!

Uhm. Last week I lost my pencil case on Monday, my folder on Tuesday, got a job on Wednesday, found my pencil case on Thursday and had high expectations on Friday.

My folder is still missing. So far, I’ve lost without finding again 2 separate earrings and my folder. All of it sucks.

I have to write a paper for Homicide. A case study. I think I’m gonna write about Kitty Genovese’s case and the bystander effect.

I am also interested in eyewitness testimony. More so point out that we rely on it way too much.

In Abnormal I’m writing a journal. Ugh, that teacherrrr. Anyway, I have Narcissistic Personality Disorder until May.

Every week for Film class we have to watch a movie and Nick is buying them “as a surprise” :)

And Math…well, I’m top of my class which has never happened before. I’m pretty happy where things are at now.

THEN WHY DID I LOSE MY FOLDER?!?!?!?! ugh.

I work 8 hours a day at a publishing company. I answer the phone, make orders from stores/schools/towns/farms/the phone, take care of the small super cute store, put away/send bills..the usual front desk kind of thing.

We have two cats that hang about, skinny cat and fat cat. The publisher (also the boss)  is funny and kind of awesome. The cats are his.

Every Friday morning, all the people in the office (we’re about 35) have breakfast together. One of the receptionist girls goes to the bakery and gets all kinds of good stuff. And we drink coffee together and sometimes, we even talk about…you guessed it: books.

I LOVE THIS JOB. I love working around books. I love the smell of paper and books and ink and Iceland.

I have a whole hour for my lunch break. And I live 2 min away, so that works out nicely. Also, at that time is when Nick usually wakes up so we can talk for a while.

I live with my friend Steinunn (a.k.a Neinunn. Or Goldfish. Or Switzerland) in a tiny apartment.

I hate not having my own place, though. I kind of need this personal space thing people keep talking about.

Anyway, I also hate that Nick is not around. And that we haven’t seen each other for 2 months and 2 weeks. I hate long distance relationships. We’ve actually been more apart than together.

BUT I LOVE BEING HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hate my phone company

I grew up in Barcelona. Every summer I would go to Reykjavík to visit my family and go to school for two weeks before my school in Spain started. My mum arranged that so we (me and my twin sister) would learn Icelandic and meet kids our own age.

When I was 16 I realised that the school system in Spain is crap. But I graduated and, thus, finished the obligatory part of high school in Spain.

I decided I would keep studying because a) apparently you are nothing without a university diploma and b) they told me that those 2 years would be nothing like the past 4 of high school.

When I realised that that was a lie, I decided I would move away. That’s when I found the IB program. I’m going to be honest: IB was hard (especially with the ex-best friend sabotage). But it was also the best thing that ever happened to me. It was the best choice for me at the time and I’m very happy that I moved to Iceland and studied Psychology and Biology and even some Math (gasp!).  I learnt French and more English than I could ever have learnt in Spain.

After those 2 years I started Psychology in the University of Iceland. We took classes in a movie theater behing the main building. That’s how tiny that school is. The books were all in English (except a couple that were in Danish or Norwegian) and class was in Icelandic.

I gave up after the first semester. I loved my books but didn’t like my teachers at all. I didn’t like that the program was so limited. And I wasn’t ready for school either. From January till September I worked and partied a lot. It was good. I started missing school and the routine and the books and the people.
For a while, my mum had been asking me to come back to Spain and to go to school here. So I joined the University of Barcelona. I took Literature for one year (I’m just finishing now) and I loved the people and I loved the location (it’s the old university building. It’s gorgeous on the inside) I liked some of my classes but I hate living in Spain.

So after some thinking I checked out the University of Maryland, College Park. And let me tell you, that place is beautiful. It’s like its own student town. All the campuses together, plazas and places to grab a coffee or a smoothie or lunch. Pedestrians have priority, cars go super slow. And it’s green. And it has so many different things going on! There’s the science part and the sports part and the language and arts and farming and all these different things!

It’s scary. I’ve already been to two different schools. Am I trying to take a year on every university in the world or what?! I don’t think I am ever going to be sure about this until I try it.

Yesterday she gave me a bag full of clothes. And it wasn’t a cute little bag, it was a huge black trash bag. Those that are like, 6 feet tall or so.

Let me tell you about the clothes I found inside: she hadn’t worn most of them. Some of them, just once or twice.

So I’m totally recycling. There are some cute dresses in there. And shirts too. I also rescued a couple of jeans and she told me that she had found more that she didn’t want.

My shopping list for winter is now reduced to…heels! and some crazy make up :)

She also gave me a dress that she bought when she was upset at something. She got a call and got so upset that she bought 2 scarves, a pair of pants, the above mentioned dress and a wallet.

She was going to return or exchange most of it the day after. The dress didn’t fit her well (not curvy enough, bahahaha!) and the pants were weird. She wasn’t happy with one of the scarves and the other one she wanted in another colour. The wallet…well, hers is busted so she needed one anyway.

I’ve noticed that this compulsive consumerism when one is upset is like “a thing”. Nick does it, too. Other people I know (friends, co-workers, acquaintances) as well.

I think I am too biased to observe that in myself. Maybe I do that too. What’s that all about?! I hate to think that I buy things without thinking to make myself feel better.

Hello world.

Today is going to be a very long day. This past few days I’ve been waking up at the crack of dawn (6.30) to go to one of my jobs (YES!! I have 2!). Today, I also have a doctors appointment (at 15.05) and then I have to go to my other job (that actually starts at 15 but I called ahead and so I’ll just go straight from the doctor’s) till 23.

That’s how it’s going to be, wednesday to sunday: from 8 to 12 at Graffiti and from 15 to 23 at Mar. Mondays and Tuesdays are my days off at Mar, so I’ll only be working at Graffiti.

Sounds awesome, right?

Except I have to turn in 4 essays and take an exam in September. And then I’m leaving (I already have a plane ticket. From before I got the jobs! And I didn’t even pay for it so no, I can’t change it).

So then the question was: should I come back after a couple of weeks OR should I find a job there and just work my beautiful ass off?

I say I don’t know. But I don’t think the job at Mar will be available to me anymore, seeing as the manager still doesn’t know that I’m leaving. But hey! I’ve had to train for free for two weeks. And I had everything down by the second day. So it’s not that hard.

I’m buying a bubble gum pink suitcase no matter what. It’s awesome. And it’s cheap, compared to the rest of them!

This way I will be able to take all (ha! I wish) my winter clothes to Iceland and then take all the clothes that I couldn’t take with me last year from Iceland and either send them to Nick or take them with me.Or something. I have a feeling this plan is going to fail miserably.

But at least I’ll have a bubble gum pink suitcase.

We were woken in the early hours of the morning by a staff member loudly talking about how he was drunk and asking if anyone had seen his cigarettes.

It’s from before I started working here, before they changed owner or management or whatever. I still think it’s hilarious and could happen with this management.

PS2. Yes, I’m blogging from work. But it’s 9 in the morning and this is a youth hostel. And this computer doesn’t have word, so I can’t open my essays. URG

Even though I there wasn’t anybody around to kiss it and the iodine thing BURNED. Ask Nick, I had him on Skype while I was putting it on. He’s a witness to my pain!

It’s ok, though, because now it’s smiling :)

PS. How lame is it that my first post since my computer died is about my clumsiness?

I love comics. I actually have 134678 (exaggeration, I don’t have that much free time) online comic strips on my bookmarks. I love mythology and folklore. And si-fi. And animation movies. And some anime (just some).

It‘s bad. Nick makes fun of me (but that‘s okay, he‘s a closet nerd). Thank god for my good looks, right?

I better do good and maybe even get another job.

Neinunn keeps asking me when I’ll go to Iceland. It kinda pisses me off, it’s not like I’m not there by choice. It’s not like I love being here. Dammit. I’ve just been ignoring her when she says that. Dude, if I can make it, I’ll go. If I make enough money with the job I just got today, after paying for the stuff I need for my education (please, please, please let this be the right choice for me) if I still have money, obviously I’ll spend it in pleasurable things like going to Iceland (and buying tons of clothes – which I haven’t done in way too long. I’m serious, I’m not being a consumerist or spoiled brat. I haven’t bought clothes since…2007?- and make up (finally!) and books!!! maybe even a trip to Ikea!).

I decided to post tonight because I fell asleep at 11 (yay!!) and woke up at midnight.  At least I fell asleep in a normal hour, I guess.

Anyway, yesterday I found this little guy on the wall. I just hope he eats up all the mosquitoes.
